Harlan Hubbard Studio

The Harlan Hubbard Studio and Preserve, a National Historic Preservation site, was built by Harlan Hubbard in the 1930’s. The studio sits on a half acre of preserved woodland in the center of Fort Thomas Kentucky. It is not open to the public except during special Open House days.

Visit and enjoy this enchanting space where Harlan Hubbard, an artist and writer known for his simple lifestyle, and his wife, Anna, a librarian at the Cincinnati Public Library, lived during the early years of their marriage. You’ll marvel at their choice to reside in this small, spartan space, without running water or electricity.

They had only each other and their creativity, ingenuity and a deep love and gratitude for the land. It was from the studio that they set out for the river to build their shantyboat.
