FTFC’s Model Native Garden and Eradication Programs in Tower park.

 9:00 am 

Introduction to Model Native Garden and Eradication Programs, including chainsaw safety and usage.

 

 9:15 am 

Model Native Garden to include:

*Planting native grasses in bare areas. This includes scratching soil, scattering seeds and mulching.

*Digging up Kentucky River Cane and transplanting. 

 

10:15 am

Eradication Program (while work continues in native garden).  You will learn and take part in the following activities:

*Invasive plant identification 

* Methods of eradication (cut stump, foliar spray)
*Honeysuckle eradication w/o herbicides 

*Chain saw safety and useage
*Future training plans regarding use of herbicides
*Actual eradication work if time permits 

 

11:30 am 

Mark Leopold will do a walk-through of the conservation easement and talk about the Fort Thomas Forest Conservancy Vision 

 

In addition, we will be holding a raffle of 

(1) patch of KY river cane and (2) pack of native wildflower seeds

 

Please join as for the entire morning or for part of the morning based on what your interests are.  Think of this as a day to experience the beauty of Fort Thomas, while learning techniques to beautify your own garden.

 

We are hoping for no rain but are setting the rain date for Sunday.
